Take a Step Back in Time
If you want to participate in a truly unique event that remains the same today as it was 18 years ago when it began, give the Louis Reed Time Trial in Ripon a try.
It takes place Sunday, July 13, beginning at 8:15 a.m. at Barlow Park on the south side of Ripon. It is a 10-mile time trial. There is no entry fee.
Organized by Eric Westhagen, the Louis Reed Time Trial pays tribute to Ripon's bicycle hero of more than a century ago. Ripon hosted the state bicycle meet of the Wisconsin Division of the League of American Wheelmen in 1893 and 1894. The tournament was held on a horse track where Barlow Park is now located. Louis Reed, a Ripon College student, captured four state championship titles and broke a world record time at the 1894 state tournament.
According to Westhagen, the Louis Reed Time Trial is truly "the race for everybody, young and old, and of all abilities and equipment."

Thanks allot for the plug, Rick. The event will be at the same time and place this year, also. That second Sunday in July is JULY 12,2009.
Eric
Dear Rick,
The years have now "fast forwarded" to the 25th year of our race on the Second Sunday in July--the 12th this yeard 2015. But road bike is in doubt. No "racers, even the most amateur do not come." We have had years with NOBODY. One can only assume the road bike has passed its time for now and miles are more important than personal speed with the few remaining "bikers?"
But again---thanks for keeping the post. Eric----- http://louisreedrace.blogspot.com
